Report: Sanders to lay off half his campaign staff Wednesday

Bernie Sanders might be laying off half his campaign staff Wednesday following tonight’s primaries.

Two sources close to the Sanders campaign told the New York Times that many of those who will be out of a job are “advance staff members who often help with campaign logistics, as well as field staff members who have been working to garner votes for the senator.”

They will either be moved to Sanders’ Senate office or outright terminated, according to the Times.

This information is coming from, according to the Times, a Sanders campaign official and a former campaign staffer, both of whom spoke anonymously.

The Sanders campaign did not return a Washington Examiner request for comment.

The layoffs would come a day after Hillary Clinton clinched the Democratic nomination for president after winning the New Jersey primary.

Despite being mathematically eliminated, Sanders still plans to stay in the race. He and his campaign are hoping for a big win in California’s primary, and, if all goes well, they will continue convincing superdelegates to turn their support from Clinton to the Vermont senator.
