There was a time not too long ago when the relationship between Canada and the United States was positive and nearly impenetrable. Our two countries have been close friends, allies, and trade partners for many years. Canadian and American leaders have obviously had moments of disagreement related to trade, tariffs, border security, declarations of war, and the like. They always found a way to lower the political temperature and work out their differences quickly and efficiently.

That hasn’t been the case as of late. Canada and the U.S. have barely seen eye to eye on anything since President Donald Trump returned to the White House. Trump has most recently said he will impose 50% tariffs on Canadian products from wine and hockey sticks to cement, in response to Canada’s retaliatory duties on various American products.
