Indiana governor extends gas tax suspension until September

Gov. Mike Braun (R-IN) extended Indiana’s gas tax suspension on Wednesday, appearing to bypass time limitations on his move to do so in April.

Braun initially signed an emergency order on April 8 that suspended the state’s 7% sales tax on gas for 30 days to address the impact of the war in Iran on the energy market, invoking Indiana’s energy emergency law. The governor has since extended the sales tax suspension to the 120-day maximum allowed under the law, with the relief set to expire Aug. 6, unless the legislature takes action.
