The FBI opened an investigation into then-Attorney General Jeff Sessions on May 10, 2017, one day after President Donald Trump fired then-FBI Director James Comey, over allegations that Sessions made false statements to Congress about contacts with Russian officials, newly declassified records show.

The investigation began nearly two months after Sessions supplemented his disputed testimony and was initially based on a letter from two Democratic senators.
