A Canadian restaurateur just gave a masterclass not in cooking, but rather in trolling.
It happened last Friday outside the Antler restaurant in Toronto. According to Global News, anti-meat protesters have been gathering outside Antler to protest its meat-based delicacies. But this time, things went a little differently from normal.
Considering that Toronto is a bastion of liberalism, the protesters probably expected that Antler’s management and chefs would bow down to them and beg for some kind of summit. There, the protesters likely hoped, Antler would offer to set up a committee for diversification or some such.
Wrong!
Instead, Chef Michael Hunter decided to filet a large animal leg in the window in front of the protest. He then returned to eat grilled meat in plain sight of the protesters.
Hunter didn’t react with rage or rudeness. Nor did he attempt to disrupt the free speech rights of those who believe he should go out of business and his clientele be denied enjoyable meals. Instead, the chef played the activists at their own game.
His actions unsurprisingly upset the assembled protesters, prompting one to complain that “It was obviously stressful for us, since we’re there taking a stand for the animals — we love animals — and we’re seeing the leg of a dead animal in his window.”
But Chef Hunter wasn’t done with his trolling. When one of the activists, Marni Ugar, requested a meeting with him, the chef countered with an offer to take her foraging for vegetables.
“I’m not sure if I want to do that,” Ugar told the Global News. “I certainly would like to sit down and talk to him.”
Chef Hunter should refuse that request and tell her that if she wants to meet him, she has to book a table.
