D-Day in Normandy: ‘We’re Not Heroes’

Nearly 70 years after the Allied Forces D-Day invasion France, surviving veterans of the 29th Infantry Division have returned to Normandy to reflect, and recount their experiences. (June 4)

THESE MEN FROM THE 29TH INFANTRY DIVISION STORMED OMAHA BEACH ON D-DAY JUNE 6TH 1944.

THEY ARE PERMANENTLY WELCOME IN NORMANDY…CEREMONY AFTER CEREMONY…THESE MEN ARE THANKED.

OMAHA BEACH IS FULL OF VIVID MEMORIES FOR HAROLD BAUMGARTEN.

“I can look out at that beach and tell you where each was laying and I can describe his face even now a days.”

HIS OWN SCARRED FACE IS A PERMANENT MEMORY OF HIS FIRST MOMENTS OF BATTLE.

“I landed on this beach in the first wave and I got wounded 5 times. Three times on D-Day and twice on June 7th. I had to stop. I ran out of blood.”

WORLD WAR TWO VETERANS ARE RUNNING OUT OF TIME…THEY ARE CLOSE TO 90 YEARS OLD…PEOPLE ARE GRABBING MEMORIES OF THESE

MEN, AFRAID THAT THEY WILL NOT BE AROUND TO TELL THEIR OWN STORIES AT THE NEXT ANNIVERSARY.

but when it comes to talking about heros, they point in a different direction.”
