Campaign focuses on women?s heart disease

Concerned people nationwide will be wearing red today to focus attention on women?s risk of heart disease. The fourth annual Go Red For Women campaign will take place throughout the month of February.

The movement began in 2004 to raise awareness that heart disease is the most common killer of women. The campaign provides women with information on healthy eating, exercise and risk factor reduction, such as smoking cessation, weight maintenance, blood pressure control and blood cholesterol management.

National and local landmarks, including the Washington Monument in Baltimore, will be illuminated in red throughout the month.

Today, on National Wear Red Day, employees at nearly 2,000 companies, as well as news anchors and talk show hosts, have committed to wear red in support of the campaign.
