The Democratic Party is calling for the resignation of Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. as recalls of various foods plague the nation.
Some recently recalled grocery items due to contamination involving bacteria or parasites include iceberg lettuce, jalapenos, granola, salmon, and ricotta cheese.

“RFK Jr.’s time as HHS Secretary has been a complete disaster. He must resign,” the Democratic Party’s official X account posted with a long list of the recalled foods.
Headquarters, the rapid-response X account associated with former Vice President Kamala Harris, specifically pointed out that a Seattle bakery recalled select potato sourdough products in the area due to possible contamination with metal shards. The account also warned that frozen blueberries may lead to death.
The Food and Drug Administration, which falls under the Department of Health and Human Services, is monitoring the different food recalls.
As he faces public and congressional scrutiny on this issue, Kennedy has defended the Trump administration’s handling of the situation. The secretary has also urged Congress to give the FDA more authority and resources to manage the nation’s food supply more effectively.
Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) is unhappy with how the administration has handled the recalls caused by major outbreaks in recent weeks.
“Donald Trump, Elon Musk, and RFK Jr. bragged about their gutting of the federal government – including the FDA. It’s their entire philosophy,” Schumer wrote on X. “The result? DEADLY BLUEBERRIES, the most recent in a string of food recalls that are endangering the health of millions of Americans.”

Sen. Ruben Gallego (D-AZ) made a similar statement, accusing Republicans of “making the country sicker and poorer” while millions of parents are “freaked out.”
Kennedy is a major proponent of the Make America Healthy Again movement in his official HHS role, so the food recalls detract from his public health messaging.
