Washington Examiner healthcare reporter Gabrielle Etzel emphasized healthcare affordability messaging ahead of the midterm elections and said President Donald Trump is making a dent in prices.
“The administration has been hammering home that prescription prices are down for the first time in years,” Etzel said Friday on Newsmax’s Wake Up America.

Prescription drug prices fell by 0.8% in July and are down 3.1% from last year, the steepest annual decline in more than 60 years, according to the most recent Consumer Price Index report.
Trump administration officials have attributed the drop in prices to the launch of the TrumpRx platform.
“The important word for this election cycle has been affordability, and if we’re looking at the most important costs on the average Americans’ plate, it is healthcare costs,” Etzel said.
Etzel referenced a Gallup poll from March and said Americans were more concerned about healthcare costs than gas or groceries.
Healthcare access and affordability were identified as the main concerns for voters. Nearly 85% of Americans said they are at least somewhat worried about the availability and affordability of healthcare.

“It’s going to be a continued talking point as we head to November,” Etzel said.
The midterm elections are Nov. 3.
