Michelle Obama just might need a break from the campaign trail.
While campaigning for Sen. Mark Udall (D-Colo.) Thursday, the first lady incorrectly labeled him a “fifth-generation Coloradan.”
“As a fifth-generation Coloradan, Mark understands what makes this state special,” Obama said in her speech. “He understands the values of independence, and fairness — all the things that folks here believe in.”
Apparently, Michelle didn’t read Udall’s biography close enough, or else she would have known that Udall was born in Arizona and spent his adolescent life there, after which he attended Williams college in Massachusetts. Only after graduation in 1972 did he move to Colorado.
Ironically, Udall’s challenger, Republican Congressman Cory Gardner, is the “fifth-generation Coloradan” Michelle appears to have been talking about. Perhaps she was reading his biography before her speech by accident.
Mrs. Obama has been no stranger to campaign flubs ahead of the November midterm elections. Earlier this month, the first lady messed up the name of the Iowa Democratic candidate for Senate at least a half dozen times during a campaign event speech.
