Arlington buses back on track despite strike

Arlington Transit and its contractor, Forsythe Transportation, are reporting a return to 100 percent bus service after last week’s strike by drivers.

More than 20 bus drivers stopped working last week to protest what they called ongoing sexual harassment and a harsh work environment. They filed a complaint with the Arlington Human Rights Commission Thursday.

Forsythe reported it had replaced the striking workers with newly hired and trained drivers over the weekend.

The company’s statement, released Monday, also rebutted claims that the new drivers were not fully qualified.

“[That] is a complete fabrication and has no basis in fact,” the company’s statement said.

The striking workers are suspended pending an investigation, company owner Bill Forsythe said.
