Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH) on Wednesday revealed he plans to forgo leading two of the most powerful committees in the House when the current Congress ends at the start of 2027.

Jordan said he will not seek to retain the top Republican spot on the House Oversight and Judiciary committees during an interview with Politico at the Republican Party’s historic midterm convention in Texas. The development provokes a leadership shake-up on both committees, prompting speculation on who will fill the spots when the next Congress opens in January. The announcement comes after Jordan has led an intense period of investigations and inquiries on both committees during President Donald Trump’s second term, including scrutiny into Jeffrey Epstein and probing concerns that the FBI-DOJ “Arctic Frost” operation weaponized the justice system to surveil Republican lawmakers unlawfully.
