Long-running rumors that Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) married her biological brother to help him obtain immigration relief have returned to national attention after senior Trump administration officials indicated that federal authorities are mounting an immigration fraud case against the congresswoman.

The controversy took a new turn earlier this month when Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin suggested the agency has actionable evidence to believe that Omar, a naturalized U.S. citizen since 2000, married her own brother as part of an immigration scheme.
