Voters in six states will soon decide whether to impose or expand voter identification requirements, including rules requiring mail voters to provide part of a driver’s license or Social Security number.
The measures in Arizona, California, Colorado, Nevada, North Carolina, and Ohio vary in scope. Some would create new requirements, while others would place rules already operating under state law into state constitutions, making them harder for lawmakers to undo in the future.
