Former Rep. Michael Grimm, R-N.Y., got a boost Saturday in his bid to return to office by Anthony Scaramucci.
At an event on Staten Island, Scaramucci, who served as White House communications director in Trump administration for all but 11 days, spoke of redemption.
“I’m a big believer in forgiveness. I’m a big believer in redemption. I think all of us, as a society, have to think that way,” Scaramucci said after the rally when asked about Grimm’s seven months in prison.
The prison time came after Grimm, who served two terms in Congress until early 2015, pleaded guilty to tax evasion.
The Trump ally will face off against the man who replaced him in the 11th Congressional District, Rep. Dan Donovan, in the Republican primary in June.
Scaramucci was fired from the White House in July 2017 after John Kelly replaced Reince Priebus as chief of staff and following a lewd interview he gave to the New Yorker in which he spoke about fellow members of the Trump administration.
