Three of the four children injured after a woman accidentally backed her sport-utility vehicle into them while they were in a driveway have been sent home from the hospital, Prince George’s County police have said. A fifth child, 8-year-old Natalie Hernandez-Cruz, was pronounced dead at the hospital after the Thursday night accident.
Hernandez-Cruz’s mother, Marianable Cruz-Lopez, was the woman driving the vehicle and police have not charged her with any crime as of Sunday. Cruz-Lopez’s 2-year-old son, who, was also injured in the accident, was discharged Friday and is recovering at home, police said. A 6-year-old boy and 7-year-old girl have also been discharged and are recovering at home.
A 10-year-old boy remains at the hospital in “critical/stable condition.” His condition is improving, police said.
The incident took place about 8:45 p.m. Thursday in the 2200 block of Hannon Street in Lewisdale. Cruz-Lopez had accidentally pressed on the gas instead of the break when approaching the driveway, according to police.
