Trump’s hubris and failure get their voter payback

Published Updated

President Donald Trump was elected to bring down inflation and put America and Americans first. Instead, the president interpreted the mandate he won in 2024 as a license to govern capriciously, and his supporters have paid a steep price for his repeated mistakes. They understandably resented this and, in the midterm election, have turned the tables and delivered payback to Republicans.

A Democratic blue wave was a much-predicted result, but it is also an unwelcome one that the country will probably pay dearly. Democrats have lurched far to the left and are bent on reshaping the nation in ways that, but for Trump’s arrogant unpopularity, could not have garnered such high levels of public support.
