The Republicans take the court as the Washington Generals

First, congratulations, Democrats. You won convincingly, and your victory can reasonably be described as a blue wave. However, whether you are a Democrat or a Republican, there is a quote by Winston Churchill that seems apropos in this moment: “In war, resolution; in defeat, defiance; in victory, magnanimity; in peace, goodwill.”

Second, I sometimes think the Republicans resemble the Washington Generals, taking the court only to tee up the ball for the Harlem Globetrotters’ slam dunks and comedic mayhem. Who am I not to succumb to a knee-jerk reaction and a slight twitching of the eye? But even Cicero was a hypocrite.
