1926: Norma Jeane Mortensen Baker — who would become known as Marilyn Monroe — was born. Norma Jeane was discovered by a photographer while working in a munitions factory as a teenager. She worked as a model and soon signed a film contract with 20th Century Fox. She died in 1962 at age 36.
