President Trump raised more than $10 million for his 2020 re-election bid during the first three months of the year, and closed out the quarter with more than $28 million in the bank, according to his campaign’s filing with the Federal Election Commission.
Trump made his re-election plans official this year. The president’s campaign is raising money aggressively, both online from grassroots supporters and through high-dollar fundraising events held in concert with the Republican National Committee.
“With 97.7 percent of our contributions from small donors, patriotic Americans throughout America are signaling their emphatic approval of Donald Trump’s performance as president and his commitment to continue to make America great again despite the obstruction of the president’s many opponents,” Michael S. Glassner, Chief Operating Officer of the Trump campaign, said in a published statement.
In the past 15 months, the Trump campaign has raised more than $42 million through a combination of social media appeals to small, grassroots donors, and traditional contributions from major donors through a web of joint fundraising committees organized with the RNC. The president’s campaign has spent more than $21 million during that time.
Of that, a combined $5.7 million, or more than 20 percent of Trump campaign expenditures, appeared to flow to Brad Parscale in 2017 alone. Parscale is Trump’s top political consultant for his 2020 re-election bid, and FEC reports say the money was paid to Parscale Strategy LLC and Giles-Parscale.
