Two men mugged a Danish tourist in New York City for his “Make America Great Again” hat, according to a report Saturday.
Jannich Andersen, 18, told the New York Post that as he was entering a New York subway station on Thursday when a stranger took the hat off of his head and said he “couldn’t leave with the hat.”
Anderson reportedly grabbed the hat back and as a struggle ensued, the robber’s accomplice pulled out a knife. The tourist said he then let the hat go.
Anderson, who claimed he bought the hat as a joke for his dad, told the Post that he would still be willing to return to New York City, but not with “that kind of headwear ever again.”
“Make America Great Again” was the slogan for President Trump’s 2016 presidential campaign, which was then placed hats that became a popular accessory among his supporters.
Police have issued a sketch of one of the suspects, which the Post shares in its report.
