Sonic and the Secret Rings

Finally, a Sonic game that doesn’t make gamers as blue as the hedgehog himself.

After a series of flops, SEGA finally remembered the formula that made Sonic a hit almost 15 years ago: Sonic + speed = fun.

Sonic and the Secret Rings for the Nintendo Wii sets Sonic in an odd story where he has to fix blank pages in “Arabian Nights” with the help of a genie.

The levels, though, are beautiful and the action is far easier to control than on the past few titles. Using the Wii-mote, held sideways, you lean it left and right to control the high-speed action.

The key to this title’s fun is the 40 Wii-tastic mini-games, including odd tasks like catching fruit on a sword and pouring gold coins into a treasure chest.

For anyone ready to give Sonic another chance, this game is one to check out.

Ghost Rider

Burning rubber and sending evil screaming back to Hell, Johnny Blaze is taking his fiery style of hurt to the PSP and Playstation 2.

With a story by comic authors Jimmy Palmiotti and Garth Ennis, the game takes place after the events of the film.

With somewhat repetitive but fun God of War-style gameplay, the Spirit of Vengance uses his hellfire, chains, and shotgun to defeat evil and collect souls for his unholy taskmaster, Mephisto.

Between the on-foot action, you take to your motorcycle to do the less-than-inspired driving levels. You slide under trucks and jump random gaps in a mini-game that belongs on a cell phone, not a PS2.

This game doesn’t have much imagination and doesn’t do much for fans of the series.
