Trump to visit CIA on first full day of presidency

President Trump will visit the Central Intelligence Agency to address a crowd of more than 300 CIA officials on Saturday, the first full day of his presidency, according to White House press secretary Sean Spicer.

Trump had sparred with Democrats in the weeks before his inauguration over intelligence reports that suggested Russia had sought to tip the election in his favor, leading to speculation that he would face tensions with the intelligence community.

But Trump’s team repeatedly insisted that the president took issue with the politicization of intelligence reports, not the agents compiling the reports themselves.

His visit Saturday to the CIA is a symbolic gesture likely aimed at shoring up goodwill among members of the intelligence community after a turbulent few weeks.

Rep. Mike Pompeo, Trump’s nominee for CIA director, will reportedly join Trump on his visit to the agency’s headquarters in Langley, Va.
