Christie: Private firms the answer on climate change

New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie wants the private sector to come up with solutions to climate change and keep the federal government out of the way.

In one of the only questions about climate change in Wednesday’s third Republican presidential primary debate, Christie said the first step to encouraging renewable energy usage is to stop giving money to the federal government.

“There’s no evidence they can fix anything in Washington, D.C.,” Christie said.

Many scientists blame the burning of fossil fuels for releasing greenhouse gases, which they attribute to the ongoing warming of the planet.

Christie said investments need to be made in all types of energy and pointed to New Jersey’s success in solar power as evidence that it can be done.

Christie said New Jersey is third in the country in solar power production. The Energy Information Agency reported earlier this week New Jersey is fourth in the country in solar energy production behind California, Arizona and Florida.

“We work with the private sector to make energy affordable to individuals and businesses in our state,” he said.

Christie ranks ninth in the Washington Examiner‘s latest presidential power rankings.
