Trump Fed pick Stephen Moore once proposed ‘no women anything’ in men’s sports

Stephen Moore, President Trump’s pick for a Federal Reserve governing board spot, once said that no women should play any part in men’s sporting events.

Excerpts from several of his columns were published by CNN Tuesday.

“Here’s the rule change I propose: No more women refs, no women announcers, no women beer venders, no women anything,” Moore wrote in a March 2002 National Review column.

Moore, 59, wrote an op-ed in 2000 in which he complained about his wife voting for the opponents of Republican presidential nominee George W. Bush and the GOP Senate candidate in Virginia, former Gov. George Allen. Women were easily manipulated by television ads, Moore wrote. “Women are sooo malleable! No wonder there’s a gender gap,” he wrote.

He responded to CNN: “This was a spoof. I have a sense of humor.”

Moore’s nomination has not been submitted to the Senate, but Trump announced via Twitter last month that he had chosen him. He is expected to face a tough Senate confirmation battle. Trump’s other choice for a Federal Reserve seat, former Republican presidential candidate Herman Cain, withdrew from consideration on Monday.
