Cruz: Trump’s transgender take is ‘political correctness on steroids’

Sen. Ted Cruz attacked the anti-political correctness bonafides Saturday of the candidate who has made attacks on “P.C.” politics his signature: Donald Trump.

In a new tact, Cruz cast himself as more politically incorrect than his chief rival, who he trails in delegates and national polls.

Cruz hit Trump for his opposition to the new North Carolina law on transgender persons, casting Trump’s opposition as a part of a new desire by Trump to be politically correct as Trump tries to pivot toward the general election.

“Politicians get in office, and they betray us,” Cruz told a Pennsylvania crowd Saturday.

“We’ve seen the pattern. Usually they talk good on the campaign trail, and then they get in office, and betray us. Well, I have to give Donald credit, he’s betraying us before he got elected,” Cruz said.

Trump agrees “with Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama that grown men should be allowed to use the little girls’ restroom,” Cruz continued. “That’s just nuts.”

“That’s just political correctness on steroids,” Cruz said.

“A couple of months ago Donald told us he could be the most politically correct person on Earth,” Cruz said, before asking, “Well, haven’t we had enough of this nonsense? How about common sense and telling the truth?”

Cruz, speaking before a group of backers who remained standing throughout his address, offered a standard stump speech, but with scathing attacks on his rivals and President Obama.

“The era of a president who mocks and ridicules your service is coming to an end,” Cruz said in remark addressed to members of the military. Like almost all U.S. lawmakers, Obama has praised members of the Armed Forces and veterans.

Cruz said he would “end welfare” for immigrants in the country illegally and eliminate “sanctuary cities” that set a policy of not aiding in the deportation of undocumented immigrants.

Cruz also said he would ensure that “young people come out of school with two, three, four, five jobs.”
