Rep. Paul Grijalva, D-Ariz., and a group of pro-illegal immigrant activist groups held a conference call Thursday to discuss the consequences of making Arizona’s immigration law, SB1070, a a model for the nation.
The group bashed Mitt Romney, who has endorsed the law, for over an hour.
The Arizona congressman accused Mitt Romney and anyone who endorses him of having a “you’re not part of us attitude.” While many speculate that Marco Rubio may join Romney’s ticket to enhance the Hispanic and Latino vote, Grijalva says that, “Romney can’t change what he said no matter how much Marco Rubio dances for him.”
Instead of focusing mostly on the Dream Act, the group on the conference call spent a lot of time making the point of how Romney has a “radical approach” and is the most “anti-Latino and anti-immigrant” candidate that has been around in a while.
Others on the call included: Erika Andiola, a Dream Act advocate from Arizona and director of DRM Capitol Group, Frank Sharry, executive director of Americas Voice, and Cesar Vargas a managing partner of DRM Capitol Group.
The activists say they believe that,”since a lot of the main swing states have a large Latino population that Romney will have a hard time where as Obama has more roots to win.”
U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) recently released their numbers and said that under the Obama administration last year they broke their record of deporting illegal immigrants.
