NASA’s longest-serving space shuttle, Discovery, will fly over the Washington area Tuesday aboard a jumbo jet before landing at its final home with the Smithsonian Institution. The shuttle is expected in the Washington area between 10 a.m. and 11 a.m. The best places to spot the shuttle are the National Mall, Hains Point or the Southwest Waterfront Park. The shuttle also can seen from the Old Town Alexandria waterfront, Gravelly Point or Long Bridge Park in Virginia and National Harbor in Prince George’s County in Maryland, according to the National Air and Space Museum. The shuttle will go on display at the museum’s James S. McDonnell Space Hangar at the Udvar-Hazy Center near Washington Dulles International Airport. – Courtney Zott
