Russia is going to be selling a new and deadly anti-aircraft weapon very soon that would pose a threat to both civilian and commercial aircraft, according to the news group Jane’s.
Jane’s says the state-owned arms company KBM recently introduced its 9K333 Verba man-portable air-defense system (MANPADS,) which gives an individual the capability of shooting down virtually any aircraft with ease and precision.
The company announced that the missile launcher will be cleared for export, although KBM officials would not reveal what countries or groups are planning to purchase one of the deadly, mobile launchers.
The U.S. has long feared that terrorists would seek out mobile missile launchers to shoot down commercial airliners in America, a fear made more potent after pro-Russian Ukrainian separatists killed 295 people this way by shooting down a Malaysian airlines plane on July 17, 2014. Ominously, the new Russian weapon has technology that can scramble anti-missile systems designed to protect aircraft.
MANPADS don’t require a lot of technical skill to operate, which makes them a very lethal threat in the hands of terrorists. This video shows Syrian fighters, without benefit of any trajectory calculus, using the weapon with ease.
