Amazon’s website experienced technical difficulties following the start of the annual Prime Day sale, preventing customers from making purchases when deep discounts are available.
Although some customers could search for regular items, or non-Amazon-branded items, and could view their shopping cart, they were unable to buy items at checkout.
“Sorry, we’re experiencing unusually heavy traffic,” a message read after customers attempted to purchase items, according to USA Today. “Please try again in a few seconds. Your items are still waiting in your cart.”
Some customers also reported experiencing error pages, where “dogs of Amazon” appeared in the browser.
Those “dogs of Amazon” you’re seeing on prime day fails?
Amazon has 6,000 dogs that come to work at its Seattle headquarters. The company so dominates Seattle that it has more dog employees than just about any other company has human employees in Seattle (Starbucks comes close) pic.twitter.com/CPGWe0YW6w

Amazon did not immediately respond to a media request from the Washington Examiner.
The sale began at 3 p.m. ET and was slated to last for 36 hours. This is the fourth year Amazon has held the sale.
