Lovers of potato salad, rejoice!
The man behind the potato salad Kickstarter campaign has announced PotatoStock2014, a benefit concert scheduled for Sept. 27 in Columbus, Ohio. On the menu? Lots and lots of potato salad.
Zack “Danger” Brown made headlines in July when his Kickstarter campaign to raise $10 for potato salad inexplicably went viral, garnering 6,911 backers and $55,492 in donations. Followers of the campaign wondered what Brown would do with the sum and how he would make good on his promise to give backers around the country a taste of his potato salad.
Well, the wondering is over. According to the campaign’s Kickstarter page, Brown will host a free, day-long benefit concert in Columbus Ohio featuring music and, of course, potato salad. Proceeds from concessions served at the event will go to the Columbus Foundation to help end hunger and homelessness in Ohio.
Brown will whip up an estimated 200-300 tons of potato salad at PotatoStock. The demo will take place in an industrial-sized kitchen to accommodate the many backers who paid for the special privilege of hanging out with Brown as he prepares his potato salad.
According to Brown, Hellmann’s and the Idaho Potato Commission are committed sponsors of the event. As for the entertainment, local bands have been booked, but the headliner is still undeclared.
Brown also said that a large portion of the remaining money from the kickstarter campaign will go to the Columbus Foundation. Some of the funds will also be used by Brown to launch a for-profit LLC, which will aim to create funny and joy-inspiring content for viewers.
In anticipation of the epic potato salad festivities, Brown tweeted the following,
#PotatoStock will be free and open to everybody. No need to deal with any ticket scallopers.
