WHO: Massachusetts Gov. Deval Patrick
WHAT: Gov. Patrick spent $70,000 in federal stimulus money for highway signs that commemorate the stimulus at construction sites across the state. An additional $15,000 in state money was spent for similar signs that include his name.
WHY IT’S AN OUTRAGE: Patrick claims the signs show taxpayers how their money is being spent, but they’re also free advertising for the governor, who is up for reelection in 2010. Predecessor Mitt Romney banned similar signage in 2003.
