A 19-year-old Westminster teen was in critical but stable condition Sunday, two days after he was allegedly stabbed and left to die in the street by his 14-year-old half-brother.
Witnesses told Maryland State Police that the victim was stabbed repeatedly during a fight with his half-brother at a party in a corn field along Leppo and Geeting roads, 10 miles north of Westminster.
Police are withholding the suspect?s name because he is a juvenile. The Examiner is withholding the victim?s name to protect the suspect?s identity.
Police charged the suspect with second-degree attempted murder, assault and reckless endangerment. He was released into the custody of the Department of Juvenile Services.
The victim was stabbed in his left side and back with a 4- to 5-inch-long folding knife, State Police spokesman Greg Shipley said.
While police are still investigating the cause of the violent attack, it may have been the result of “sibling antagonism and maybe an argument over a girl,” he said.
After Carroll County sheriff?s deputies and the State Police searched the area for an hour using the canine and aviation divisions, the suspect turned himself in.
“He got tired of hiding and turned himself in because he said he knew he was going to get captured,” Shipley said.
Police said motorists found the victim “bleeding profusely” in the Leppo roadway.
After being treated by the Pleasant Valley Fire Department, he was flown by State Police helicopter to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center.
Shipley said about 10 people attended the field party, and some people were charged with underage drinking.
However, police saw no indication that the stabbing suspect had been drinking, he said.
