Most U.S. adults disapprove of President Trump’s response to last weekend’s violent events in Charlottesville, Va., although most Republicans support him.
A new poll from CBS said 55 percent of voters disapproved of Trump’s response and just 34 percent approved, after Trump twice said both sides were to blame for the violence that led a white nationalist to plow his car into a crowd of counterprotesters.
The poll said 67 percent of Republican voters approved of the president’s response to the violence, while 82 percent of Democrats disapproved.
It added that 55 percent of those surveyed said Trump was not speaking accurately about the event.
The poll said 63 percent believe the attack was an act of “domestic terrorism.”
CBS News polled 1,223 adults nationwide from Aug. 14 to Aug. 16 and has a margin of error of 4 percentage points.
