Influential conservative Iowa talk show host endorses DeSantis for president

Influential conservative talk show host and Iowa native Steve Deace endorsed Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) for president on Friday, citing his tenure as chief executive of Florida as an example of GOP leadership.

“I want to see what happened in your state happen everywhere else. And that’s why I’m endorsing you for president,” Deace, a longtime fixture among Iowa Republicans, told DeSantis Friday during his eponymous show. DeSantis was appearing as a guest on the program.

The Florida governor later posted a picture of himself with Deace on social media. “I’m honored to receive the endorsement from the great @SteveDeaceShow,” he wrote. “Like so many Iowans, Steve knows the time for excuses is over. We will get the job done in 2024!”

The endorsement comes as DeSantis and most other 2024 presidential candidates have flocked to the Iowa State Fair and Gov. Kim Reynolds’s (R-IA) “Fair-Side Chats” in order to woo potential voters in Iowa’s first-in-the-nation caucuses. DeSantis is scheduled to hold his chat with Reynolds on Saturday. Former President Donald Trump, the current front-runner in the GOP primary, is attending the fair on Saturday as well but won’t participate in a discussion with Reynolds.

The endorsement also came on the same day that Never Back Down, the DeSantis-affiliated super PAC, announced a list of county chairs in all 99 counties in Iowa backing DeSantis.

“The momentum for Governor DeSantis continues to grow in Iowa and we’re proud to have Iowans in every single county sign up to help send Governor DeSantis to the White House,” said Tyler Campbell, the group’s Iowa state director. “In Iowa, we know what makes a good leader and we’re impressed with DeSantis’s record of family first policies, strong border policies, and economic opportunity. We’re excited to look to the future and win back the White House.”
