Frederick police have new composite images of a victim in an unsolved murder case, and are asking the public to help identify the young woman.
The mystery began Aug. 24, 1982, after police received a call about a steamer trunk just off the roadway at the Frederick City Watershed. Inside the trunk police found a body of a white female, 18 to 25 years old, with dark hair.

Detectives have pursued hundreds of leads and conducted numerous forensics tests but so far the woman has not been identified. Several months ago, detectives reached out to Sgt. Don Stahl of the Charles County Sheriff’s Office, an expert forensic reconstruction of skeletal remains, to create a new facial image of the woman, said Lt. Clark A. Pennington.
“We wanted to see, based on new technologies or innovation in that art form, if having a new rendition can generate new leads,” Pennington said.
Stahl provided digital pictures last week of what the victim may have looked like at the time of her discovery. Forensics experts said the woman had degenerative hip bones, indicating that she may have been an athlete, cheerleader or gymnast. The new images show the woman would have looked while she worked out with her dark hair pulled back.
She also had undergone extensive dental work, police said.
Anyone with information on this case is asked to call Detective Curt Lege at 301-600-3918. Callers wishing to remain anonymous may call 301-600-TIPS.
