Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul has stepped up his attacks against Texas Sen. Ted Cruz with under two weeks to go until voters cast their ballots in the first GOP nominating contest. Paul distributed a fundraising solicitation that claims the “Liberty Movement [is] getting played.”
“Sadly, Senator Ted Cruz has just not been an authentic, genuine voice when it comes to defending liberty,” Paul’s solicitation reads. “[H]e continues to flip-flop on central issues to try and fuel his political ambition. Patriot, we can’t let ourselves get played. There’s just too much at stake. If you agree, please make your most generous contribution of $100, $50, $25, or even $10 to my campaign’s Caucus Takeover Money Bomb right away.”
Paul’s fundraising pitch also hits Cruz for his approach to foreign policy, national security, and “ties to Wall Street.”
Cruz is statistically tied with Donald Trump atop the most recent Iowan polling, while Paul trails six other candidates in Real Clear Politics’ average of Iowa polls. Cruz also leads the Washington Examiner‘s newest GOP presidential power rankings.
