Two home invaders met their match on Monday when a 10-year-old boy scared them out of his family’s Brooklyn home — using one of their own guns.
Around 5:30 p.m., two men disguised as FedEx workers knocked on the door of the Canarsie home in South Brooklyn, where they were greeted by the 10-year-old’s two teenage sisters, reports the Associated Press.
The men then pushed the girls aside, invaded the home and proceeded to head upstairs.
On the second floor, the 40-year old homeowner slammed a door on one intruder’s arm, causing him to drop his gun.
The homeowner’s 10-year-old son then picked up the weapon and fired a shot at the would-be robbers, who returned fire. Luckily, no one was hit.
Due to the boy’s action, the invaders fled the house without taking any of the family’s belongings.
According to the AP Story, neighbors of the family were surprised by the violence, stating that they were usually quiet and kept to themselves after moving into the neighborhood a few years ago.
“They have a store, so maybe the person who robbed them knew there was a lot of cash in there,” neighbor Kimberly Lindo told The New York Post. “They have two brand-new BMWs in the driveway. I don’t know, that’s kind of unusual for this neighborhood.”
Detroit, Mich. also had their very own pre-teen hero back in May, when 9-year-old Jaden Kanka evaded home invaders and got his neighbors to call the police. They arrived while the armed men were still in the house and they were taken into custody.
