Fox Business host Lou Dobbs expects the Republicans to lose control of the Senate in the 2020 election.
He told Robert Jeffress, pastor of First Baptist Church in Dallas, on his show Friday that Senate Majority Mitch McConnell will be to blame because of his opposition to “good, strong” candidates.
“It’s a shame to see it. You would like to see this president, every one of these senators should be standing up for him,” Dobbs said. “I really believe that Mitch McConnell is running this time the — he’s doing a Paul Ryan — he’s about to lose the Senate because of this ridiculous attitude of his.”
Dobbs was referring to how Republicans lost control of the House under the leadership of House Speaker Paul Ryan thanks to the so-called “blue wave” during the 2018 midterm elections in which Democrats flipped 41 seats. He also noted, as did Jeffress, that they believe President Trump will win reelection.

Earlier in the show, Dobbs had on former Kansas Secretary of State Kris Kobach, who is running against Rep. Roger Marshall in next month’s GOP primary to compete for the seat being vacated by retiring Sen. Pat Roberts. A super PAC aligned with McConnell, the Senate Leadership Fund, is spending $1.2 million to buy ads on TV to boost Marshall. Dobbs noted that McConnell and the Republican leadership “have told all the senators not to run with this president, attach themselves to his coattails.”
There are other warning signs for Republicans in the upper chamber, where they currently hold 53 seats. An analysis released by the nonpartisan Cook Political Report said that with just over 100 days out before the election in November, “Democrats are a slight favorite to win the Senate majority.”
