If America were Burger King, millennials would have it their way by voting for anyone but Hillary Clinton or Donald Trump.
In a new national poll conducted by Fairleigh-Dickinson University, millennials despise Clinton and Trump so much that flipping the tickets would change the presidential race significantly.
As a necessary variable in FDU’s PublicMind poll, respondents were asked who they prefer for president in a four-way race between Clinton, Trump, Gary Johnson, and Jill Stein. Hillary Clinton remained clearly ahead:
And with millennials aged 18-29, the race tightens between Clinton, Trump, and a third party candidate not named:
But what would happen if Clinton or Trump were not on the top of their ticket? What if we switched out Clinton for her running mate Tim Kaine and Trump for Mike Pence?
As you can tell from the graph above, in a Tim Kaine-Mike Pence presidential matchup, Kaine would hold an eight point lead over Pence, 49 to 41 percent, and, among millennials 18-29, Kaine leads by almost double the national margin, 51 to 36 percent. However, Kaine would be poised to win in a landslide if he went up against Donald Trump, both in the national and millennial category.
Thing get interesting when you change just the Republican ticket to set up a Hillary Clinton-Mike Pence matchup. Nationally, Clinton would hold a one-point lead, yet Pence would be leading in the millennial 18-29 category, 50 to 42 percent.
So, what does this say about millennials? If anything, it says that millennials would probably rather take a steaming hot bath in a tub full of formaldehyde than vote for Clinton or Trump.
