Chelsea Clinton hit the campaign trail for her mother Hillary Clinton on Tuesday, hosting an education roundtable in Concord.
With her mother trailing Bernie Sanders in the Granite State, the campaign is pulling out all the stops, with former President Clinton campaigning for his spouse on Wednesday.
The former first daughter fielded questions about her mother’s early childhood education plan, one of Clinton’s first campaign proposals of 2016, in an effort to draw daylight between her and the other Democratic candidates. The early childhood education roundtable contrasted Clinton’s policies with those of Sanders, as the democratic socialist has not emphasized early youth education as much as Clinton has on the trail.
While Clinton polls especially well among older women, she has struggled to gain traction among millennial voters, many of whom have committed to Bernie Sanders. One such older female voter thanked Chelsea for campaigning and said her presence “will bring young people” to the Clinton campaign, as “they are listening to the wrong message right now.”
Clinton is currently struggling in New Hampshire, as the Vermont Senator leads her 47.8-43.5 in the Granite State, according to an average of polls compiled by RealClearPolitics. Additionally, Clinton’s once assumed lead in Iowa is now in jeopardy, as a Monday WSJ/NBC poll showed Sanders within the margin of error, her edge shrinking to only 48-45.
