Schumer: Flynn revelation ‘just the tip of the iceberg’

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., says Tuesday’s revelation that former national security adviser Mike Flynn may not have reported payments from Russia Today he received during a 2015 trip could only be scratching the surface when it comes to Russia’s interference in the U.S. election.

“The disturbing news that General Flynn may have violated the law in connection with his security clearance may be just the tip of the iceberg.” Schumer said in a statement Tuesday.

House Oversight Chairman Jason Chaffetz, R-Utah, along with the committee’s top Democrat, Elijah Cummings, D-Md, said Tuesday they have yet to see any evidence that Flynn reported payments he received from Russia Today, or RT.

Flynn served as Trump’s national security adviser but was forced to step down after foreign surveillance, leaked to the media. revealed Flynn spoke with Russian Ambassador Sergey Kislyak.

“These revelations highlight the importance of the intelligence committee working in a bipartisan way to request and receive documents with respect to any financial arrangements Flynn and others in similar positions may have had with foreign governments,” Schumer said.
