Amid a difficult press cycle for Hillary Clinton, a National Rifle Association commentator has seized the opportunity to argue against her credibility for reasons unrelated to email (or 30,000 of them).

Navy SEAL Dom Raso harkens back to Clinton’s claim that she took sniper fire while landing in Bosnia during the 1990s. She told the dramatic tale during the 2008 presidential campaign — drawing criticism from the Obama camp for “exaggerating” — and soon after chalked her story up to a “misstatement.”

“I have been in the public eye for many, many years, and this is something that I think happens to anybody,” she said in a radio interview at the time.

The account resurfaced this year when commentators compared the error to Brian Williams’ debunked story about coming under attack while embedded in Iraq.

“Hillary was willing to lie in order to take advantage of that feeling of gratitude and awe Americans have for those who serve: ‘Oh, I was under sniper fire, and I know what it feels like to be in war,’ ” Raso says in the editorial.

“Brian Williams is a joke and he’s getting the public shaming he deserves. But Brian Williams never ran for President and he never laid claim to the title Commander in Chief. There’s a different set of rules for people who do.”
