In the bellweather Virginia Senate race, Democrat Tim Kaine and Republican George Allen are locked in a dead heat, but pollster Scott Rasmussen reveals that independents and men are leaning toward Allen.
In his latest state poll just released, Rasmussen said Kaine and Allen both get support from 46 percent of likely voters.
But in a finding that could help Allen, Rassmussen found: “Voters not affiliated with either of the major parties prefer the Republican by a 45 percent to 38 percent margin.” Also, “Allen is favored among male voters in the state 52 percent to 43 percent, but he trails Kaine among females 48 percent to 41 percent.”
Virginia, declared a purple state in the 2008 election, is being closely watched by both parties as an indicator of the national trend. The Senate race has been deadlocked for months.
