D.C. Council’s case against Sulaimon Brown dismissed

A judge has dismissed a case in which the D.C. Council had subpoenaed a former mayoral candidate to retrieve documents potentially related to the Gray for Mayor campaign. The documents were part of a special committee probe last summer into Mayor Vincent Gray’s administration’s hiring practices.

Brown and his attorney eventually produced the documents this fall. Brown said he had resisted the subpoena because the items at the time were in the possession of the U.S. Attorney conducting an investigation into Gray’s 2010 campaign. However, by the time he handed over the documents, the special committee had already published its report on the Gray campaign. The report found that nepotism and poor hiring practices were commonplace during the mayoral transition.
