Vice President Mike Pence used his Thursday appearance at the Conservative Political Action Conference on Thursday to highlight the Trump administration’s accomplishments over the year in areas like taxes and rolling back Obama-era regulations.
“2017 was the most consequential year in the history of the conservative movement,” Pence told the crowd at the Gaylord National Resort in National Harbor, Md. “It’s been a year of action. It’s been a year of remarkable results. In a word, it’s been a year of promises made and promises kept.”
The vice president ticked through a list of items the Trump White House was able to achieve in its first year, including the passage of tax cuts, the withdrawal from the Paris climate accords and the shift of America’s embassy in Israel from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem.
“We’ve been busy rolling back the heavy hand of government,” Pence said, noting the administration’s efforts to scrap 22 regulations for each new one it enacted last year.
Pence also credited Trump with restoring America’s standing in the international community. Trump and his allies have long criticized former President Barack Obama with eroding U.S. credibility through his foreign policy.
“Under President Donald Trump, America once again stands without apology as leader of the free world,” Pence said. “Our NATO allies are contributing more to our common defense than ever before.”
“In this White House, it’s about strength. It’s about growth for our nation. And it’s working,” Pence added. “America is more secure and our economy is booming.”
