The weekly and closely-watched number of first time jobless claims rose last week by 24,000 to 329,000. Economists had expected the number to come in at 315,000.
Those looking for an explanation that is consistent with a real and robust economic recovery would have trouble using the weather as an alibi. There is, however, Easter and economists may have forgotten about that. Easy to do, in these secular times.
