Trump touts cost-effective stay in New Jersey

President Trump said that the reason he is in New Jersey this weekend is because his hometown of New York City is more “expensive and disruptive.”

“The reason I am staying in Bedminster, N.J,. a beautiful community, is that staying in NYC is much more expensive and disruptive. Meetings!”, the president tweeted Saturday evening.

The president is staying at one of his New Jersey properties, the Trump National Golf Club in Bedminster.

Trump pointed out the cost efficient option of visiting his New Jersey property in a recent interview with Fox News.

“I love New York, but going back is very expensive for the country because they close up Fifth Avenue and they close up 56th Street,” the president said in an interview on Fox News. Trump then said about his New Jersey property: “I have a place there that costs almost nothing because it’s hundred of acres and security and they don’t have to close up streets.”

The president also made notice of his newfound thrifty weekend getaways yesterday when he tweeted saying: “Rather than causing a big disruption in N.Y.C., I will be working out of my home in Bedminster, N.J. this weekend. Also saves country money!”

The tweet comes after large amounts of criticism of the president’s expensive weekend trips to his Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida, with reports showing millions of taxpayer dollars going towards the weekend getaways. The Mar-a-Lago is now closed for the summer season.
