Donald Trump’s campaign accidentally revealed Wednesday that their next line of attack against former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton could be the Whitewater real estate scandal.
The campaign made the revelation when Hope Hicks, the campaign’s spokeswoman, accidentally responded to Politico reporter Marc Caputo instead of campaign advisor Michael Caputo, who had emailed a researcher at the Republican National Committee asking them to “work up information on HRC/Whitewater as soon as possible.”
The email also revealed that RNC researcher Michael Abboud could be joining the Trump campaign in the near future as Hicks tried to tell Michael Caputo not to contact Abboud directly.
“He is still an employee of the RNC and we need to be sensitive to that until he comes over to our team full time,” Hicks told the Florida-based Politico reporter.
Over the past week, the Trump campaign has been directly attacking former President Bill Clinton. Last week, the presumptive GOP nominee said that Clinton was involved in “rape” before turning his attention to the suicide of Vince Foster, a former Clinton White House staffer. Focus on the Whitewater scandal could be only the latest in the string of attacks.
Whitewater refers to an investigation into real estate dealings by the former president, which included allegations that the he used his position as governor of Arkansas in the 1980s to influence a $300,000 loan deal for a partner of his. While the Clintons themselves were never prosecuted for their roles, multiple Clinton aides were convicted.
Marc Caputo and Michael Caputo are not related to each other.
