Jury and a purr

Tidbits around Washington

That was former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright being turned down for jury duty Monday, after having spent all day doing her civic duty at the Moultrie Courthouse on Indiana Avenue. She attentively watched “My Big Fat Greek Wedding” as she waited and later told a stranger on the way out, “It’s too bad we didn’t both get picked; we could have been friends!”

-A caring crooner: On Sunday, famed singer Roberta Flack was in town to visit family and she ended up adopting a 4-month-old kitten from the Washington Humane Society. The kitten – a tiny, black, striped thing named Jay Jay – was found as a stray on the street in Northeast DC. Now it’s off to the Big Apple for Jay Jay, as Ms. Flack returns home.

-And auditions for P.Diddy’s new MTV reality show — “Star Makers” — will take place tonight at the Best Western Hotel on Princess Garden Parkway. The event takes place from 6-10pm, but get there quick: Only the first 93 will be allowed in.
